Electric Blue Acara
The blue acara typically reaches a size of around 13 cm (5.1 in), although it can grow up to 16 cm (6.3 in) in length. Its body has a compact and stocky shape, while its fins are long and flowing. Compared to similar cichlids, the blue acara has a rounder head.
The coloration of the blue acara's body can vary, ranging from browns to blues to black, influenced by local diversity. The body is adorned with five to eight vertical black stripes, which may not always be distinctly visible, along with blue iridescent spots. The face of the blue acara displays a few horizontal green lines. The fins of this species feature a touch of orange on the tips, and some individuals may have a red rim on their top fin. An identifying characteristic of the blue acara is a noticeable black line extending from the eye down the cheek, which sets it apart from other similar cichlids.
