Apistogramma
Freshwater Apistogramma, commonly known as apistogrammas, are a diverse group of small cichlids native to South America. These fish are known for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns, which make them popular in the aquarium hobby. There are over 90 different species of Apistogramma, and they can range in size from 1 to 4 inches. They are generally peaceful and can be kept in community tanks with other small, non-aggressive fish. Apistogrammas are known to be highly territorial during breeding, and their colorful displays and intricate courtship behavior make them fascinating to watch. They are also known for their unique reproductive behavior, including the care of fry by both parents.
