Green scats
The Scat, a popular choice for brackish water aquariums, exhibits three distinct color forms: green, silver, and red. These color variations were once believed to be separate species but are now recognized as variants of the widely distributed S. argus. This species can be found along almost every coastline in the Indo-Pacific region. Scats are known as amphidromous fish, regularly migrating between freshwater and marine habitats.
Although marketed as a freshwater fish, Scats thrive best in brackish or marine aquariums, despite being able to adapt as juveniles in freshwater. The green scat, a common color variant of S. argus, is typically found in estuaries and mangrove forests. While young scats can tolerate pure freshwater for a period, they will eventually require transfer to a brackish or full marine aquarium as they mature.
Being social creatures, scats are often observed in large aggregations. To ensure their well-being, it is recommended to keep them in groups of five or more, fostering their natural behavior in an aquarium setting.
