Dario dario, commonly known as the Scarlet Badis or Badis Dario, is a small and brightly colored freshwater fish belonging to the Badidae family. Native to northern India and Bangladesh, these fish are often sought after for their striking appearance and relatively manageable size, reaching about 1.5 inches (4 cm) in length.
Males of the species exhibit vibrant hues of red, blue, and green, while females are generally less colorful. Scarlet Badis are known for their intricate courtship displays during the breeding season. They prefer heavily planted aquariums with subdued lighting and are generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially during breeding.
Due to their small size and specific care requirements, Dario dario are best suited for aquariums with experienced hobbyists who can provide appropriate conditions, such as a well-planted tank with hiding spots and a stable water environment.
