Tiger Silver Dollar
The Tiger or Barred Silver Dollar is a striking species known for its distinctive markings. It originates from the Rio Tocantins and other nearby rivers in Eastern Brazil. Sporting an intricate "tiger striped" or barred pattern and displaying iridescent coloration, this species has gained popularity in the aquarium hobby. It is now being commercially bred for trade purposes.
Similar to other Silver Dollar fish, the Tiger Silver Dollar is a schooling species that thrives when kept in groups of three or more in an aquarium. Due to their large adult size and active nature, they require a spacious tank. As a noteworthy detail, this species is often chosen as a dither fish for larger predatory species or medium to large South American Cichlids.
