Species Profile

The Sterbai Cory (Corydoras sterbai) is a popular catfish from the Guaporé River basin in Brazil. The albino variety displays creamy white skin accented with yellow‑orange fins and pink eyes. Their peaceful temperament makes them ideal residents for community tanks.

Housing and Water Parameters

  • Group size: Keep at least six individuals to encourage natural schooling.
  • Tank: A 20‑gallon or larger aquarium with a sand substrate protects their sensitive barbels.
  • Water: Maintain soft, slightly acidic water (pH 6.0–7.0) at 72–79 °F. Provide moderate flow and frequent water changes.

Diet and Tank Mates

Albino Sterbai corys are omnivores that enjoy sinking catfish pellets, bloodworms, mysis shrimp and blanched vegetables. They scavenge the bottom for leftover food but should not be relied upon as sole cleaners. Suitable tank mates include peaceful tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids and shrimps.

Decorate the tank with driftwood, leaf litter and broad‑leaf plants. Incorporating live plants for fish tanks offers shady refuges and supports healthy water conditions. With proper care, these attractive bottom‑dwellers live 5–8 years and may even lay eggs on plant leaves.
