Atya gabonensis, also known as the Gabonese shrimp or the African giant filter shrimp, is a species of freshwater shrimp native to the streams and rivers of West and Central Africa, including Gabon, Congo, and Cameroon.

As their name suggests, Atya gabonensis are larger in size compared to other species of freshwater shrimp, with some individuals reaching up to 10 inches (25 cm) in length. They have a brown or grayish body with light stripes, and like other Atya shrimp, they have large, fan-like appendages that they use to filter feed on particles in the water.

In terms of aquarium care, Atya gabonensis requires a spacious aquarium with a strong current or gentle water flow to help them filter feed. They are peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful species of fish or shrimp, but should not be kept with larger, more aggressive fish that may view them as food.

Atya gabonensis are omnivorous and will feed on both plant and animal matter. They can be fed a varied diet of algae wafers, blanched vegetables, and small live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or bloodworms.

Water parameters for Atya gabonensis should be kept stable, with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5, and temperatures between 75-82°F (24-28°C). Regular water changes and proper maintenance of the aquarium are important to ensure the health and well-being of these shrimp.

It is important to note that Atya gabonensis have specific water quality requirements and should only be kept by experienced aquarists who are able to provide them with the appropriate care.
