Osteoglossum ferreirai, commonly known as the black arowana or black aruana, is a species of freshwater fish from the family Osteoglossidae. It is native to South America and found in the Amazon Basin, Essequibo River, and Orinoco River.
The black arowana is a large fish, with an elongated, muscular body that can grow up to 90 cm (35 inches) in length. It has a black to dark gray coloration with a metallic sheen, and its scales are large and diamond-shaped.
Black arowanas are carnivorous and feed on other fish, insects, and crustaceans in the wild. They are also known for their ability to jump out of the water to catch prey, which has made them a popular gamefish in their native range.
