Melanistus Cory

Scientifically known as Corydoras melanistius, the Bluespotted Corydoras is a peaceful fish belonging to the Callichthyidae family, hailing from South America, particularly found in the waterways of Guyana.

In fish tanks, Bluespotted Corydoras typically reach a size of 5 - 6 cm (1.97 - 2.36 inches).

For optimal conditions, it is recommended to maintain a pH range of 6.4 - 7.4 and water hardness (dGH) between 4 - 18°N (71.43 - 321.43ppm). The ideal temperature for the species is 22 - 26°C (71.6 - 78.8°F).

Bluespotted Corydoras are peaceful towards both their own species and other fish species. They are typically found at the bottom levels of the tank.

Feeding the Bluespotted Corydoras should include quality flake, sinking pellets, and algae wafers for their staple diet. Providing treats of bloodworms and brine shrimp twice a week helps keep them in good condition, and it's best to feed them in the evening when they are most active.

While Bluespotted Corydoras have not been reported breeding in aquariums, it is believed that they are egg scatterers like other Corydoras species in the wild.

The expected lifespan of Bluespotted Corydoras is around 3-5 years.

When keeping Bluespotted Corydoras, it is essential to have them in small groups of at least 5 members, as they are social creatures. Providing hiding places in the tank and using fine gravel or sand as substrate will help protect their delicate barbels from damage. Keeping them with other peaceful species is recommended, as they are considered timid.
