Description

The Pearl Calvus (Altolamprologus calvus) is a fascinating cichlid native to Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. Known for its striking pearly sheen and compressed, laterally flattened body, it has a unique look compared to other cichlids. For another Lake Tanganyika favorite with lots of personality, the leleupi cichlid is a great rocky-cave species to consider. Despite its elegant appearance, the Pearl Calvus is a slow-growing but long-lived species, often admired for its calm and deliberate movements. It thrives in rocky aquariums with plenty of hiding spots, where its natural behavior of ambushing smaller prey can be observed. This fish is highly prized among aquarists for both its beauty and its intriguing, patient personality. For another Lake Tanganyika option that’s ideal for rocky setups, the assorted tropheus cichlid is a great pick for experienced cichlid keepers.
