Species Profile

Phoenix rasboras (Boraras merah) are tiny schooling fish that light up nano tanks with fiery red and orange tones. They reach only half an inch, making them perfect for small aquaria.

Tank Setup

  • Group size: Keep groups of at least eight to promote natural schooling and reduce stress.
  • Water: Maintain temperatures of 72–80 °F and a pH of 6.0–7.5. Soft, slightly acidic water replicates their native peat swamps.
  • Décor: Dense planting with floating plants provides cover and diffused light. Use dark substrates to intensify colours.

Diet and Compatibility

These micro‑predators enjoy tiny foods such as micro pellets, crushed flakes and live or frozen daphnia and cyclops. They are peaceful and can be housed with other tiny fish and shrimp.

Creating a natural aquascape with live plants for fish tanks not only showcases their colours but also offers surfaces for biofilm and improves water quality. Phoenix rasboras, though small, deliver big visual impact when cared for properly.
