Robustus Cory

Scientifically known as Corydoras robustus, the Robust Cory is a peaceful fish from the Callichthyidae family, originating from South America, particularly found in the waterways of Brazil. In fish tanks, they typically grow to a size of 7 - 9 cm (2.76 - 3.54 inches).

For optimal conditions, it is recommended to maintain a pH range of 6.6 - 7.2 and water hardness (dGH) between 4 - 17°N (71.43 - 303.57ppm). The ideal temperature for the species is 22 - 27°C (71.6 - 80.6°F).

Robust Corys are peaceful towards both their own species and other fish species. They are typically found at the bottom levels of the tank.

Feeding the Robust Corys should take place in the evening when they are more active. They readily accept sinking pellets, algae wafers, and quality flake food. As treats, offering bloodworms and brine shrimp twice a week is recommended.

Regarding sexing, females can be identified by their stockier body shape and slightly larger size when viewed from above.

While these Corydoras have not been reported breeding in aquariums, it is believed that they are egg scatterers like other Corydoras species in the wild.

The expected lifespan of Robust Corys is around 3-5 years.

When keeping Robust Corys, it is essential to have them in small groups of at least 5 fish, as they are social creatures. Providing hiding places and plenty of plants in the tank is preferred. It is crucial to avoid keeping them with aggressive tank mates, and using a fine gravel or sand substrate will help protect their delicate barbels.
