Borneo loach

The Borneo Loach, also known as Borneo Suckers or Hong Kong plecos, originates from the rapid-moving streams of Asia. These fish have streamlined bodies that are well-adapted to withstand strong currents. They derive their name from the island of Borneo, located in Malaysia. In their natural habitat, these loaches thrive in fast-moving, oxygen-rich environments, similar to the streams they originate from. To replicate these conditions in an aquarium, it is recommended to install powerheads to create water flow. Additionally, Borneo Loaches prefer tanks with live aquatic plants, such as java moss, anubias barteri, or green cabomba, which provide them with cover.

When it comes to care, Borneo Loaches are relatively easy to maintain as long as water parameters remain stable. They are peaceful freshwater fish, making them suitable for community tanks. They can coexist safely with other non-aggressive fish, snails, shrimp, and live plants. It is recommended to keep them in schools of three or more, as they tend to do best in groups. Similar to other hillstream loaches, Borneo Loaches require ample oxygen in the tank to thrive. They also prefer cooler water temperatures ranging from 68-75°F (20-24°C). It is important to note that warmer water contains less oxygen, and temperatures above 75°F may be detrimental to their well-being. Borneo Loaches thrive in water with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH level.

These fish make excellent tank mates for other types of hillstream loaches and goldfish, as they all require similar colder water temperatures. By providing the appropriate conditions, including water flow, live plants, and suitable tank mates, you can create a conducive environment for the well-being of Borneo Loaches in your aquarium.
