Yellow Nigrita Synodontis Catfish

The Gold Nigrita Catfish (Synodontis nigrita), also known as the False Upside-Down Catfish, is a medium-sized catfish species with a unique and uncommon golden coloration as it matures. It represents a rare color morph within its species. This catfish is notable for its occasional upside-down swimming behavior and its ability to produce squeaking or croaking sounds when removed from the water. It is an active fish, especially considering its catfish nature, and it is compatible with a wide variety of fish species.

The Gold Nigrita Catfish is primarily nocturnal, but it can become active during daytime hours once it has acclimated to an aquarium that provides ample driftwood, rockwork, and other hiding places. Generally peaceful in nature, the Gold Nigrita Catfish is compatible with most fish that are too large to be considered prey. It primarily feeds on invertebrates in the wild, so it should not be housed with ornamental invertebrates in the aquarium. It does not pose a threat to plants. Being a small predator, it produces a moderate amount of waste, and it is sensitive to declining water quality. Therefore, regular water changes and maintenance are crucial. While it can be kept singly, it thrives better in small groups since it is a gregarious species.

The Gold Nigrita Catfish is an undemanding eater that readily accepts various meaty live, frozen, and dry foods. It should also be provided with regular vegetable matter in its diet. Offering a varied diet is essential for promoting optimal health and vibrant coloration in this species.
