The Cherax destructor Volcano, originally bred in Thailand, is quite distinct from the blue original Yabby found in Australia, which is a popular edible crayfish. However, the beautiful Volcano crayfish is not meant for consumption. With an impressive body length ranging from 15 to 20 cm, the Volcano Yabby is a considerably large addition to any aquarium. Particularly, the robust claws of the males are incredibly striking.
The Volcano crayfish boasts a bright orange base color that appears to radiate from within. It features wide, dark blue to purple horizontal stripes on its abdomen segments. The walking legs display a range of colors from orange to blue. Notably, the claws are adorned with vibrant red articulated membranes. The scissor fingers are beige to creamy white with orange tips, and the broad scissor hands sport shades of purple to dark blue, often accompanied by a light oblique stripe. As the Volcano Yabby matures, a subtle marbling pattern typically develops on its claws.
