Super Red Albino Lyre Swordtail
Xiphophorus helleri, commonly known as the swordtail, is a popular species of livebearing freshwater fish. It is native to the Atlantic slope of Mexico and Central America and is widely distributed in the aquarium trade. The Green swordtail is named for the long, pointed extension of the lower part of its tail fin, which resembles a sword.
In the wild, swordtails can be found in various types of freshwater habitats, including streams, rivers, and ponds. They are omnivorous, feeding on both plant matter and small invertebrates.
In the aquarium, swordtails are popular due to their hardiness, ease of care, and peaceful nature. They are relatively small, growing to a maximum length of about 4-5 inches (10-13 cm) and can be kept in a community tank with other peaceful fish. They are also known for their breeding habits, as they are livebearers, meaning they give birth to live young instead of laying eggs. Females can produce batches of 20-40 fry every month, making them a popular choice for hobbyists interested in breeding fish.
