The L-146 Rubber Lipped Pleco (Chaetostoma milesi), also known as the Rubbernose Pleco, is a hardy and peaceful freshwater catfish native to fast-flowing rivers in South America, particularly Colombia. This small pleco species, growing up to 5–7 inches in length, is prized for its algae-eating capabilities, making it an excellent addition to a community tank.
Rubber Lipped Plecos prefer aquariums with strong water flow, well-oxygenated water, and a temperature range of 72–78°F (22–26°C). They thrive in tanks with plenty of hiding spots like driftwood, rocks, and caves, as well as a sandy or smooth substrate to prevent injury to their sensitive undersides.
Primarily herbivorous, their diet should include algae wafers, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein-based foods like bloodworms. They are peaceful and compatible with most non-aggressive tankmates but require excellent water quality and regular maintenance to stay healthy.
