Species Overview

Long fin cherry barbs (Puntius titteya) are an elegant variation of the common cherry barb. Their extended fins accentuate their deep red colours and graceful swimming.

Tank Requirements

  • Schooling: Keep at least six individuals; males display their best colours when competing for females.
  • Water: Provide temperatures of 72–79 °F and a pH of 6.0–7.5. Moderate flow and clean water maintain health.
  • Décor: Dense planting, especially with fine‑leafed plants, offers cover and helps shy individuals feel secure.

Diet and Tank Mates

Cherry barbs are omnivores. Offer high‑quality flakes, micro pellets, and small live or frozen foods. They are generally peaceful and coexist well with other small community fish like tetras, rasboras and gouramis.

These barbs do not nip fins when kept in proper groups. Regular water changes keep colours vibrant. Incorporating hardy live plants for fish tanks such as Java fern and Cryptocoryne provides grazing areas and enhances the natural look of your tank.
