Description
Geophagus taeniopareius, commonly known as the Taeniopareius Eartheater, is a cichlid species native to the upper Orinoco River basin in Venezuela. This fish is characterized by its yellow ground color and distinct horizontal stripes along its sides. Unlike most Geophagus species, which are known for their mouthbrooding behavior, G. taeniopareius are open breeders, laying their eggs in the substrate. They prefer soft, slightly acidic to neutral water conditions and thrive in well-maintained aquariums with plenty of hiding spots and a soft sandy substrate. These fish are generally peaceful but can be territorial during breeding.
