The Synodontis Ocellifer Catfish is a peaceful bottom scavenger that originates from various river systems in Western Africa. It has a yellowish to brown coloration with numerous black spots.
To house this catfish, a 50-gallon or larger aquarium with a stable temperature is recommended. Providing plenty of rocks and plants will create a suitable environment. The Synodontis Ocellifer Catfish is a peaceful tank inhabitant and appreciates having multiple hiding places available.
When handling or netting this catfish, caution must be exercised due to the presence of spines on its pectoral fins. These spines have serrated edges and can easily become entangled in nets, potentially causing injury to both the fish and the hobbyist.
At present, successful breeding of the Synodontis Ocellifer Catfish in an aquarium setting has not been achieved.
As omnivores, Synodontis Catfish should be offered sinking catfish pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, as well as high-quality flake food as part of their diet.
