Hydrocynus vittatus, also known as the African tigerfish or striped tigerfish, is a predatory freshwater fish found in various African countries including Congo, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

This species is known for its sharp teeth and aggressive feeding behavior, which makes it a popular game fish among anglers. African tigerfish are also sought after in the aquarium trade for their striking appearance and active swimming behavior.

African tigerfish are generally found in fast-moving rivers, streams, and lakes with clear water and rocky bottoms. They are known to feed on a variety of prey, including smaller fish, insects, and crustaceans. They can grow up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) in length and weigh up to 15 kg (33 pounds).

Due to their predatory nature, African tigerfish are not recommended for most aquariums as they require large tanks with ample swimming space and plenty of hiding places. Additionally, they are not suitable for community tanks as they may attack and eat smaller fish. African tigerfish require a meaty diet and should be fed a variety of live or frozen foods such as shrimp, fish, and crickets.
